PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Birds were preciously close to parading down Broad Street last winter after one of the most competitive and thrilling Super Bowls in history. While they came up short in the end, quiet genius Howie Roseman has done some slight roster shuffling and once again put forward a team that has a good a shot to win it all as any.

The Birds are coming off one of their most dominant, and most stunning, regular seasons in franchise history, if not their greatest. Jalen Hurts was MVP runner up and led the NFC's most potent offense, racking up 477 points in a breakout performance that instantly enshrined him as one of the preeminent athletes on the planet.

The Birds return much of the core of the team that nearly went all the way. Seven Eagles stars landed on NFL.com's top 100 players list this offseason, including Hurts at number 3, wideout A.J. Brown (22), center Jason Kelce (37), tackle Lane Johnson (41), edge rusher Haason Reddick (48), cornerback Darius Slay, and wideout DeVonta Smith (100).

Predictions

Sporting News has the Eagles winning the East once again with a 13-4 record, but falling to the San Francisco 49ers in the conference championship game.

ESPN, meanwhile, ran a statistical model that projected the regular season and playoffs, and in 14 percent of projections, the Birds won the Super Bowl. They have the Birds at 11-6, given their tough schedule, but they still win the NFC East, then they beat Minnesota in the NFC Championship before beating the Baltimore Ravens in the Super Bowl. That model is worth taking a second glance at for several reasons, not the least of which because it has the Birds starting the season at an appalling 2-6 before turning it all around and winning their final nine straight games.

NFL.com also has the Eagles at 11 wins for the season, which they think will be good enough to earn them the top seed in the NFC.

At plus 800, the Eagles have the 2nd best Super Bowl odds, trailing only the Chiefs at plus 600.

Schedule

The Birds doubtlessly have one of the toughest schedules in the league, with rematches of their two most recent Super Bowls against the Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots. They'll also battle other elite, out of division opponents like the Buffalo Bills and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bucs and Chiefs matchups are Monday Night Football games.

As they do every year, the Birds have two matchups against each of their three divisional opponents. Given the strength of the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants, along with the Bills and the Chiefs, it's safe to say the Birds have among the toughest schedules in all of the NFL next season.
