Pennsylvania Senate Bill 172, authorizing speed cameras in Pennsylvania, is harmful legislation, purporting to be for safety when it will have the opposite effect.
It has been known for many years that speed cameras make the highways more dangerous. The article below spells out the dangers in hard facts in an unbiased study. Camera promoters are selling the Legislature a bill of goods, holding out the promise of a steady stream of revenue from safe drivers into Harrisburg, so they can reap huge profits in selling and maintaining harmful speed cameras.

“The UK Department for Transport funded, then suppressed, a study that shows a 55 percent increase in injury accidents when speed cameras are used on highway work zones and a 31 percent increase when used on freeways without construction projects. According to the Transport Research Laboratory, the ‘non-works [personal injury accident] rate is significantly higher for the sites with speed cameras than the rate for sites without.’”

Speed cameras exist to raise money. Period. Speed cameras are a disaster wherever they are used.
Your Representative and Senator voted the wrong way on Speed Trap Bill SB 172 and I want you call them and tell them to VOTE NO on SB 172. Speed Trap Bill SB 172 must be defeated to keep Pennsylvania roads safe. This IS an election year.
