Tredyffrin/Easttown Schools Get $290K In Coronavirus Relief

Chester County school districts and universities will receive $22.7 million in aid through federal coronavirus relief legislation.

BERWYN, PA — Chester County school districts and universities will receive a huge aid package through the federal coronavirus relief legislation, including $195,179 earmarked for the Tredyffrin/Easttown School District, local leaders announced this week.

The package includes $22.7 million in funding for school districts, charter schools, universities, and colleges countywide.

"We are grateful for the assistance from the federal government to support our efforts to meet students' educational needs during this time of unprecedented crisis," State Sen. Andy Dinniman said in announcing the funding. "As schools and school districts begin to prepare their budgets for next year, they must cover the costs related to the current closures and plan to deal with the potential for remote and virtual learning needs in the future."

The money comes through the recently passed Education Stabilization Fund under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

About $16 million will go towards colleges, with about half of that amount helping fund grants to college students in the county needing financial relief.

School district education money will support both discretionary higher education needs specifically related to the coronavirus crisis, such as remote learning costs, as well as funding needed to improve educational opportunities for impoverished and at-risk students.
