Tredyffrin/Easttown SD Hosting Focus Groups After Bullying Threat

the TESD is hosting parent focus groups after a middle schooler called another student anti-semitic names and threatened the school.

BERWYN, PA – Following reports of a student calling another student anti-semitic names and making a threat toward the one of its schools, the Tredyffrin Easttown School District is hosting parent focus groups to address safety concerns in its schools.

The first two focus groups will be held Thursday, June 7 in the district's administration offices. Two others will be held June 12.

According to the district, the groups' purpose is to discuss school actions and responses to threatening behaviors or statements by students.

"We are very fortunate to work with a supportive group of parents, who have shared thoughtful recommendations to strengthen our policies regarding responses to reported threats," the district said in a letter to parents.

The groups are the result of Tredyffrin/Easttown Middle School student Nora Nissenbaum, 12, was sent images of Hitler and called a "dirty jew" after she told a boy she didn't like him. That boy also made threats to bring a gun to school with 33 targets in mind.

He later received a five-day suspension.

In the letter, the district said it will reach out to expert authorities on school safety to conduct additional research to better move forward with handling similar situations.

"The information gathered from the focus groups and expert authorities will be used when considering potential policy enhancements to threat response protocols," the district said. "We will share what we learn with the School Board Policy Committee."

District parents who want to give feedback on policies and procedures outside of a focus group can email parentfocusgroup@tesd.net.

"It has been our experience that collaboration between T/E parents and T/E school staff often results in some of the best ideas to benefit our students," the district said in its letter. We are looking forward to the opportunity for productive dialogue."
