When did you go into business?
"The website just launched last week! Main Line Family Music will be offering classes for the first time this summer."
How did you come up with the name?
"I wanted to create a name that would help clients immediately know the general location (main line) and purpose - to teach families music."
Why start a business here?
"I have been teaching classroom music for 12 years, and I absolutely love it. I also have two daughters, ages 4 and 1. Since they have been born I have taken various "mommy and me" music classes with them, and have been disappointed with the quality of music being taught. I have found a lot of "junk food" music - songs that are too difficult for children to sing, songs that are used because adults recognize them but are not age appropriate for babies and children, and songs that are being written so that a company can make a few dollars on selling a CD. I have put a great deal of thought into the repertoire Main Line Family music will use. I believe that making music together as a family - between parent and child, between siblings, between generations - is so important."
Briefly, what business are you in?
"Main Line Family Music offers family music classes for babies and children, ages 0-5, and a Mom/Dad/Grandparent/caregiver."
What’s the most difficult moment or challenge you’ve faced as a business owner?
"This summer will be our first time offering classes, so the biggest challenge right now is spreading the word."
What's been your favorite moment/proudest achievement since opening?
"Seeing the website once it was finally up and running."
How does your business give back/get involved in the community?
"I have been volunteering at Cradles to Crayons for a few years now - it is a wonderful, local, well-run organization. I plan to give back a portion of profits to Cradles to Crayons."
