Speeding is seen as anti-social behavior that should be punished. This leads to aggressive speed enforcement: Give ‘em Tickets! What better way to give speeders what they deserve as well as get lots and lots and lots of money? There’s a catch: the game has been rigged by people who think they know what the safest speeds are - local officials: and they are wrong. This is what makes aggressive ticketing unfair, unnecessary and does not make the highways any safer.
The safest speeds are the speeds 85% of drivers travel. Highway safety engineers measure traffic speeds to determine this number. However, 90% of the limits in Pennsylvania are posted below the safest speeds, by the local officials, in order to make it easy to write tickets. When was the last time your township made an actual safety engineering speed study?

Giving RADAR to municipal police will lead to an explosion of speed traps, set on streets with low posted limits, which is almost every street. It’s not for safety, folks, it’s for THE M-O-N-E-Y.
Tell your Representative to Vote NO on Senate Bill 607, RADAR for municipal police.
Sincerely,
Tom McCarey Member, National Motorists Association
