We are not cash cows driving 4 wheel ATMs

PA Senate working on unnecessary legislation that is just a tax

Dear Editor:

In a predictable move, the Senate Transportation Committee is entertaining another bill to unfairly tax motorists. SB 1098 authorizes stop-arm cameras for school buses to ticket all those maniacs who pass a stopped school bus!

Missing from the equation is any evidence that this is a crisis, let alone a problem:

According to the US Department of Transportation: No School Bus Passing Fatalities In 2015 http://thenewspaper.com/news/52/5275.asp
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data show no school kids were killed by passing motorists in the most recent year studied.

So, once again, the special interests, the camera makers, have prevailed on our esteemed Senators to enact a law that is not needed or wanted. Follow the money: the camera makers donate to the Senators; the Senators perceive that there is huge money to be made from camera tickets - free money! - right when they need more money to fund their bloated and wasteful budget.

Put a stop to the Senators’ nonsense. Tell them you are not a cash cow driving a 4 wheel ATM. Tell them, in no uncertain terms in this election year, that they must VOTE NO on SB 1098.
