MAPLE GLEN, PA — After making several stops last week in Bucks County, Barstool Sports Founder David Portnoy ventured into a popular pizza place in this tiny Montgomery County.
The self-described pizza lover ventured into Verona Pizza off Norristown Road on Tuesday, with a pizza box and a cheesesteak in hand.
"We were told best cheesesteak in the world, I don't know," Portnoy said, showing the owner who has operated the shop for three years.
"This pizza looks great. It's right up my alley," Portnoy said. "It looks spectacular."
Portnoy then sampled a slice, munching several times, stating that the pizza is so crispy even though it may have sat for a few minutes out of the oven.
He asked the owner to make him another one as he unraveled the bag holding the cheesesteak. All along, he was getting shoutouts from fans in the shopping center.
"Unbelievable cheesesteak," Portnoy said of the steak mashed with cooper sharp cheese. He took another bite and received a napkin from a customer. "The cheesesteak is definitely a 9."
He then bit into a new cheesesteak saying, "Great. I burned my face off" since the sandwich had just come out of the oven. "It's huge, messy. I can't stop eating."
He gave an official 8.8 rating to the new cheesesteak.
Portnoy visited several pizza places in Bucks County last week.
After sampling the cheesesteak, he then got a fresh pizza.
"I never do a recook," he said. "But this pizza looks so fresh and warm that I had to have it."
"This is the top recommended place we had on this trip," Portnoy said of Verona Pizza.
After digging into a new slice, Portnoy gave it an 8.2 rating.
