Boy Scouts from Troop 542 in Maple Glen Earn Eagle Scout Award

Two scouts from Boy Scout Troop 542 received the Eagle Scout Award, the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scout program of the Boy Scouts of America. Thomas Abraham III and Tyler Patrick Seabrook were honored at a Court of Honor ceremony held at Supplee Presbyterian Church in Maple Glen, where the troop is based.

During his Scouting career, Thomas Abraham earned 43 merit badges, the Ad Altare Dei Catholic religious emblem, and Boy Scouts of America’s Triple Crown and Grand Slam of National High Adventure awards. The Triple Crown and Grand Slam awards recognize Scouts who have attended three or four of the BSA High Adventure Bases: Northern Tier High Adventure Bases in Ely, Minn.; Philmont Scout Ranch, Cimarron, N.M.; Florida National High Adventure Sea Base, Islamorada, Fl., and Paul R. Christen National High Adventure Base at The Summit, Mt. Hope, W.Va.

Abraham has held numerous leadership positions in the troop, including serving as Senior Patrol Leader twice, Den Chief, Guide, Lead Instructor and Assistant Instructor. He participated in the BSA National Youth Leadership Training program and was invited to return as staff the following year. He also attended summer camp at Resica Falls Scout Reservation for seven consecutive years. For his Eagle project, he led a group which constructed and installed a bulletin board for the Horsham Powerline Trail. After graduating from Hatboro-Horsham High School, he will attend Rochester Institute of Technology, where he plans to major in mechanical engineering.

Tyler Seabrook earned 21 merit badges and held several leadership positions in the troop including Assistant Senior Patrol Leader for Activities, Troop Quartermaster, Assistant Patrol Leader and Instructor. He attended summer camp at Resica Falls Scout Reservation and was involved in many troop outings, camping trips and service projects. For his Eagle project, Seabrook organized and implemented a Marrow Donor Registration Drive for the Be-The-Match Registry. Through his efforts, Seabrook was able to register more than 50 new potential donors to the national registry. He chose Be-The-Match Registry as the beneficiary of his Eagle project because, as a child, he benefited from a bone marrow transplant through this organization. The highlight of his Eagle project experience was meeting his own bone marrow donor in person.

In addition to Boy Scouts, Seabrook is active as a manager for the Upper Dublin High School men’s soccer team, and works with the Upper Dublin Soccer Club and the Upper Dublin Township basketball league. He also volunteers for the TopSoccer Program for children with special needs. After graduating from Upper Dublin High School, Seabrook will attend Cabrini University, where he is interested in studying business management or exercise/sports science.

Boy Scout Troop 542 in Maple Glen, Pa., has more than 100 youth members and is led by Scoutmaster John Schultz. Since its inception in 1969, 146 Scouts from Troop 542 have earned the rank of Eagle.
