The House That Love Built

This is a poem I wrote about one of my favorite places as a child, my Grandmother's house.

Built by the sweat of my grandfather and uncles

Held together by the love of a family

Always in our life

Where our family grew bigger and stronger

Where our family fell apart

Then put ourselves together again

Where babies cried and grownups laughed

Where food was cooked

Where pictures were taken

Family functions originated here

Every year like clockwork

People came and people went

Memories never ceased to exist

Fights were fought

Friends were made

Children running through the grass

Pete following close behind

Tenants changed

Yet remained the same

Milestones were reached

Some never came

A place to be when the world wasn’t on your side

The people inside were always there

Children grew

People aged

Memories are still being made

Physically it changed

But spiritually it remained the same

Faces we remember disappeared

New faces emerged

Times have changed

So have the people

Only one thing remains the same

It is a house that love built
