Saturday: Chinese New Year Celebration to be Held at SRMS
The celebration is open to all community members.

The community is invited to Celebrate the Chinese New Year! 2012: The Year of the Dragon on Saturday, January 21st at the Sandy Run Middle School from 2-4:30pm. A Chinese Cultural Workshop and presentations of Chinese Performing Arts are scheduled. Admission is free.
The Cultural Program will be held in the SRMS Cafeteria from 2-3pm. Hands-on activities include Chinese brush painting & calligraphy, craft making, fun with Chinese characters, Lucky Red Envelopes, and dumpling and Yuanxiao making, Participants will also hear about Chinese culture, history and geography.

Those interested in the Chinese Performing Arts will enjoy the many performances scheduled from 3-4:30pm in the SRMS Auditorium that will be given by highly trained and accomplished professionals
Professional acrobat Ms. Aiai Jiao, one of the few Chinese trained acrobats in the US, will perform fabulous foot juggling, unicycle juggling and Chinese yo-yo. A traditional music ensemble from the Baban Chinese Music Society of New York will perform on silk and bamboo instruments, a style that is tied to the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). A traditional dance repertoire reflecting the beauty and diversity of the Chinese culture will be performed by members of the Pennsylvania Chinese Dance Club and Great Wall Chinese Dance School,

Enjoy a Beijing Opera Dance performed by Yimin Xue, a new star from the Philadelphia Beijing Opera Society. Returning to the community to bring Chinese popular folk song to life on the Western piano is pianist Dr. Cong Fan, a first prize winner at the Frinna Awerbuch International Piano Competition and the Pacific International Piano Competition. A widely recognized performer known in music capitals in North America, Europe and Asia, cellist Ms. Jie Jin will celebrate the holiday with a beautiful Xinjiang folk song.
Local singers Ms. Siyu Huang, Mr. Chunhe Xue and the talented members of the Upper Dublin High School and Middle School String Orchestra and Quartet will round out the afternoon’s schedule.
The event is co-sponsored by the Upper Dublin Chinese Association and the School District of Upper Dublin.
