Magnificent Mathematics Websites
Check out some math web sites for your child that are both fun and educational.
If your child struggles in the area of mathematics, or if you'd like to provide your child with additional math practice to help maintain or increase your child's current skill level, here are a few websites you should check out.
My first suggestion is to visit www.mathfactcafe.com. I often recommend this website to the parents of students in my class who are struggling with learning basic math facts. This site offers online flashcards for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. The flashcards are even sorted by grade level, but that doesn't mean you can't try other grade levels. Use the flash cards that are appropriate for your child's ability level.
This site also allows you to make your own time, money and fact worksheets to print out and complete. You determine the level of difficulty of each worksheet. An answer key is also available for parents or students to check the worksheet for accuracy once it's completed.
If your child is struggling with multiplication, then I recommend checking out multiplication.com. This site offers multiplication pre-tests to help determine your child's current ability level, as well as a post-test that will show the progress your child has made. Printable multiplication flashcards and a wide variety of interactive games are also available on this web site. Games like Penguin Jump, Can You Dig It? and Cone Crazy will definitely motivate your child to learn the multiplication tables!
Another website I recommend is justkidsgames.com. Making Change is an interactive game available on this site that allows your child to pretend he or she is a cashier in a convenience store. The customer purchases an item from the store, and your child must provide the customer with the correct change from the cash register. What a fun way to learn how to make change!
Clock Racer is another game included on this website. When your child's race car is in need of repair, your child has to set the clock to the right time to get back on the race track. This game provides your child with practice in setting time on both a digital and an analog clock. The faster your child sets the clock to the correct time, the faster he or she gets to the finish line.
One last website I would like to suggest is www.aplusmath.com. This site has a variety of resources from online flashcards to games to worksheets. It also offers skill practice in many areas of mathematics such as number facts, time, money, rounding, estimating, geometry, algebra and fractions.
Remember, learning does not stop outside the four walls of the classroom. It is vital for parents to continue their children's education at home. Help your child grow as a learner by making use of the endless resources available online for both parents and children.
