An arrest has been made in connection with a dog found dead inside a metal cage wrapped in plastic in Upper Dublin Township.

An arrest has been made in connection with a dog found dead inside a metal cage wrapped in plastic in Upper Dublin Township earlier this month.

According to police, Charles McCafferty IV, 22, of Lansdale, has been charged with cruelty to animals in connection with the death of his dog, found dumped in the wrapped cage on March 9.

The cage, which was covered with plastic and taped closed, was found on private property in the Willow Grove section of the township, police said.

After an investigation by Montgomery County SPCA and Upper Dublin police, McCafferty was arrested.

Officials believe the puppy, which was severely underweight, had been trapped in the crate for several days before its death.

The Montgomery County SPCA performed a necropsy and confirmed the dog's cause of death as suffocation.

"The Upper Dublin Township Police Department would also like to thank the members of the community for their outpouring of concern and support during this investigation," police said in a statement.
