MCCC's Hall of Fame Grows by Six

The college's Hall of Fame, for alumni who have gone on to do outstanding things in their lives, inducted six new members last Friday.

Their batting or earned run averages are not a topic of water cooler conversations. Their recordings have not gone platinum.

But the six individuals who were inducted into the Alumni Hall of Fame on Friday, Sept. 30, have made substantive contributions to the everyday lives of the people in their communities, from the foundation or platform created out of their time at the college. And they “still have much more to do.”

John J. Adiletto Jr., of Trappe, a member of the MCCC Class of 1975, has been the Upper Merion Area Middle School principal for 17 years.

“The rich experience I had as a student and athlete at the college provided me a solid foundation academically and personally to continue on a rewarding path,” he said in an e-mail interview.

David J. Caracausa of North Wales, a member of the MCCC Class of 1974, is a real estate broker and developer and founder and president of Coldwell Banker Premier Properties, who has been named one of the top 100 brokers in the country by the National Association of Realtors and the “Wall Street Journal.” “The college course studies and professors at MCCC provided me the educational platform to explore my interests and discover my strengths,” he said.

Melissa H. Motz of Harleysville, a member of the MCCC Class of 1978, is founder and president of Motz Wealth Management.

“It’s kind of like climbing a mountain; with each new height you reach you can see so much more you want to accomplish,” she said. “My days at Montco were my first steps.”

Motz is proudest of her ability to fund a scholarship for young women who are nontraditional students at MCCC. “I am so proud that I can make such a difference in someone’s life.”

The Hon. Mike A. Vereb of West Norriton, a member of the Class of 1986, was first elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 150th legislative district in 2006 and serves as House Republican Secretary. He also graduated from the Montgomery County Municipal Police Academy and spent 20 years in law enforcement and corporate security, including a decade with the West Conshohocken Police Department. A spokeswoman in Vereb’s office said the House was in session and Vereb was unable to be reached.

Daniel G. Kunz of North Wales, a member of the Class of 2006, was named the “Rising Star Alumnus.” After receiving his degree from MCCC, he continued his education, ultimately earning a juris doctorate in law from Widener University Law School. He joined the Pa. Army National Guard as an officer candidate. He is most proud of the relationship he built with his Little Brother in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program.

“I feel an extremely strong sense of responsibility in representing Montgomery County Community College well,” Kunz said. “This honor is a testament to the strength of the college, the administration and the professors of the school who give students the opportunity to receive a high-quality education and the encouragement to find and set goals for themselves.”

Charles Kahn Jr. of Rydal was named honorary alumnus. Kahn is a founding member of the college’s Board of Trustees, serving from 1964 to 2008. He was named a Trustee Trailblazer by the Association of Community College Trustees and was awarded an honorary associate in letters degree from MCCC in 2009. Kahn is chairman of Kahn and Co. Real Estate.

The Montgomery County Community College Alumni Association Board of Directors accepts nominations of distinguished alumni for potential induction into the Alumni Hall of Fame.

This year’s induction ceremony with an appetizer and dessert reception will be held at 6 p.m. Sept. 30. For reservations, visit www.mc3.edu/halloffame  or call 215-641-6529.

“Give back when you succeed,” Motz said, reflecting on the honor. “Pay it forward.”
