Meet David Robinson, School Board Director

With the November 8 election day swiftly approaching, Upper Dublin Patch is on a mission to inform its readers about the background and stances of every single candidate running for office in our township.

David Robinson is one of four incumbents who, along with three challenging candidates, are vying for five open spots on the Upper Dublin Board of School Directors. In , in which all candidates crossfiled as both Democrat and Republican, Robinson garned the third most votes (17.09%) on the Democratic ballot and the fourth most votes on the Republican (14.57%).

Upper Dublin Patch: What publicly elected offices have you held, and for how long?

David Robinson: Board of School Directors, School District of Upper Dublin – 2003 to Present.

UDP: Can you take a moment to tell our readers a bit about yourself-- where you're from, your education, and your professional and personal achievements?

David Robinson: I grew up in Elkins Park, PA, and attended Cheltenham High School, Dickinson College (BA – English), University of Pennsylvania (MA – East Asian Studies), and Temple University School of Law (JD).  I am a business attorney with a concentration on transactional law and commercial litigation.  I am also fluent in Japanese and have devoted much of my law practice to Asian clients doing business in the U.S. and American clients doing business in Asia. 

UDP: Where do you place yourself on the political spectrum? Are there any key philosophies or issues you hold most important?

David Robinson: While I am a registered Democrat, my participation on the Board of School Directors has been free from politics. I consider and vote on the merits of each issue based on what I believe is in the best interest of the Upper Dublin community.  I draw from the expertise and perspectives of my Republican colleagues on the Board as much as I do from my Democratic colleagues.

UDP: Why is it important to you to remain in office?

David Robinson: The School District of Upper Dublin needs experience to make it through these financially, legislatively, and legally trying times. My business law background, chairmanship of the Policy Committee, and my eight years of service as the legislative liaison for the District to the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit, uniquely qualifies me to help our District maintain its premier levels of performance while navigating the difficult waters that have caused so many other districts in Pennsylvania to falter.  I also believe that being the only incumbent with children in our schools provides me an appreciation for both parents and taxpayers in Upper Dublin.
