P-Release: MCCC’s Community Day Offers Fun for Everyone

Come and enjoy a day of fun at Montgomery County Community College’s 18th Annual Community Day on Saturday, Oct. 1, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at its Central Campus, 340 DeKalb Pike, BlueBell. The annual event features an array of activities for all ages and interests.

Children’s activities include a moon bounce, pony rides, face painting, toddler relays, pumpkin painting, sandbox activities, bean bag toss, bowling, kids’ crafts, poetry, silent auction, book sale, and a free kids’ soccer clinic hosted by the Women’s Soccer team.

For musical entertainment, The Cat’s Pajamas, a kids’ rock group, will perform free concerts at noon and 2 p.m. During the afternoon, enjoy the pop rock music of New York City singer/songwriter Ronnie Gent and MCCC Music Instructor/bassist Michael Kelly.

For teens and adult who want to learn more about the College, its courses and programs, Community Day is the perfect opportunity. Stop by the College Information Tent, listen to a 25-minute admission presentation and take a campus tour at 9:30 a.m. or 10:15 a.m. An Open House also will be held from 10 a.m. to noon.

Don’t forget to visit the Health and Wellness Expo for free dental sealants, the toothbrush fairy, flu vaccine, blood pressure screenings and lots of health-related information and tips. Check out the fresh, healthy produce at the Farmer’s Market.

Throughout the event, enjoy the wide variety of food from various vendors. Relax and watch the Women’s Volleyball Tri-Match at noon.

In conjunction with Community Day, the College Alumni Association will be hosting the Strides for Scholarships 5K Race and Fitness Walk with check-in at 7:30 a.m. Prizes will be awarded to the top runners in various age groups. Proceeds benefit the Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.

Following the race/walk, the College will host an Alumni Homecoming a free “Taste of Philly” lunch reception from 11 a.m. to noon. To register for the race/walk and/or the lunch, call 215-641-6529 or email alumni@mc3.edu.

From noon to 1 p.m., the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office and County Forensic Department will give a CSI Forensic Presentation “Dead Men DO Tell Tales.” Also, local law enforcement and MCCC’s Security Department will host several activities, including McGruff the Crime Fighting Dog, child finger printing, cyber-bulling prevention, self-defensedemonstration, drunk goggle presentation and forensic van tours.
