Three Scouts from Boy Scout Troop 542 Earn Eagle Scout Rank

Three scouts from Boy Scout Troop 542 received the Eagle Scout Award, the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scout program of the Boy Scouts of America. William G. Ackerman, Christopher R. Conner, and John F. Piergallini were honored at a Court of Honor ceremony held at Supplee Presbyterian Church in Maple Glen, where the troop is based.

Ackerman, Conner and Piergallini were presented the Eagle Award by Scoutmaster John Schultz, assisted by Troop Committee Chairman Jay Eibner and Cradle of Liberty Council Commissioner Chuck Bolger.

During his Scouting career, William Ackerman earned 42 merit badges, the God and Country Religious Award, and participated in the Florida Sea Base High Adventure program. For his Eagle project, he renovated the exterior of the Fellowship Hall at Jarrettown United Methodist Church, including building a fence and re-decking an access ramp. He is a 2016 graduate of Hatboro-Horsham High School, where he active in choir, orchestra and was an editor of the school newspaper. A member of Jarrettown United Methodist Church, he was involved in its youth group. Currently, he is a freshman at West Chester University, pursuing a double major in English and Special Education.

Christopher Conner earned 24 merit badges during his Scouting career, and attended the Philmont Scout Ranch and Summit Bechtel Reserve Scouting High Adventure programs. He also participated in the Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience (COPE) program at Resica Falls Boy Scout Camp. For his Eagle project, he worked with Upper Dublin Parks and Recreation to fabricate two large Jenga games composed of 104 sanded, branded and painted blocks for use in Upper Dublin parks. Conner is currently a junior at Upper Dublin High School, where he is on the bowling team. He is an active member of Church of the Saviour, and has served as a counselor for 5th and 6th graders at the church’s summer camp and fall retreats.

John Piergallini earned 37 merit badges and the STEM NOVA Whoosh Award during his Scouting career. He participated in Scouting High Adventure trips to Florida Sea Base, Philmont Scout Ranch and Summit Bechtel Reserve. For his Eagle project, he beautified the porch of the welcome center at Graeme Park in Horsham by sanding, priming and painting the welcome sign and several doors, railings and windows on the porch. Piergallini is a 2016 graduate of Hatboro-Horsham High School, where he was active in the school’s music program, robotics team, and National Honor Society. Currently, he is a freshman at The Pennsylvania State University, where he is majoring in electrical engineering.

Boy Scout Troop 542 has more than 100 youth members and is led by Scoutmaster John Schultz. Since its inception in 1969, 144 Scouts from Troop 542 have earned the rank of Eagle.
