Tonight: SPEAC Hosts "Homework Help"

The program will give parents strategies for getting through homework without tears from parent or child.

The Special Education Advisory Council (SPEAC) and The School District of Upper Dublin will host HOMEWORK HELP, on Wednesday, October 19 at 7 PM in the library of Maple Glen Elementary School, 1581 Fort Washington Avenue in Maple Glen, PA. The event is free and open to the public.

The program will give parents strategies for getting through homework without tears from parent or child. Upper Dublin School District staff will be on hand to offer their expertise. Some of the participating staff from the school district includes Johanna Parkin, Kathy Smyth, Sarah Feather, Lynn M. Strauss, Chelsea Torresani, Kim Marks, Julie Casper and Tamara Fogarty to name a few. SPEAC also acknowledges the support of Lynn M. Strauss is planning the event.

The program will be set up in resource fair fashion. Web based home work help will be covered, with web based resources and information shared for the benefit of parents and students. Homework Tips and Tools will offer advice on how to set up the right environment for getting homework done. Another topic will be how to overcome homework barriers and how to cope

with behavior challenges centered around doing homework. For parents of high school students, there will be tips on getting homework communication, how to plug into the Home Access Center and teacher wiki spaces. Lists of tutors and outside resources will be available. Teachers will be on hand from elementary schools, the middle school and the high school to answer questions from parents.
