UDHS Robotics Team Takes First in NY Tourny, Headed to St. Louis Championships
The Upper Dublin Robotics Initiative continues their successful tradition.
When Patch with the Upper Dublin Robotics Initiative last spring, the team was off to St. Louis for a national FIRST competition. It appears members of the club, which operates through Upper Dublin High School, will be making a return visit this spring after having a successful day of competition last Friday in the Northern NY Robotics Tournament.
According to a release from the UDRI, Team 230 Ampere, advised by UDHS teacher John Tralie, finished as the top ranked team in the main tournament and were a Finalist Alliance Captain.
"Between their robot match performances, robot design, outreach efforts, and teamwork, they won the Inspire award for the 3rd year in a row," said the release. "The Inspire Award is the most prestigious award (at this level), and is given to the team that truly embodies the challenge of the program."
The team was also nominated for the Think Award, Connect Award, Design Award, and the Innovate Award.
Team 230 Ampere members are 12th-graders Ruban Kopli, Steve Yang, Kevin Baik, Cyrus Patell, John Kim, Matt Pasquale, Steve Kennedy and 11th-grader Dana Russell.
Team 229, made up of freshman and sophomores, also competed, finishing in the top half of the pack, and were also nominated for the Motivate award. They have two more chances to qualify for the championships in St. Louis.
The Team 229 Tesla members are 10th-graders Katie O’Mara, Roxanna Tehtrani, Jen Deasy, Casey Lee, Ethan Fryer, Matt Jones, Mike McDonnell, Alex Cohen and 9th-graders Andy Pressman, Pat MacKinley, Martin Schneider, Zac Michaels.
