UDSD Honors Longtime Employees with "Years of Service" Awards
Several dozen district employees were individually honored for their service to the district.
At Monday's legislative meeting, the Board of School Directors of Upper Dublin held its annual "Years of Service" award commemorating employees for their time with the district.
Superintendent Michael Pladus recalled the history of the awards, and used the metaphor of running a marathon to express the significance of the achievements.
"We recognize our employees as they celebrate mileposts, and those mileposts are 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 years. This is the stuff that careers, and lives, are made of," Pladus said. "The quality of education available in any school or any school system can never exceed the quality of the teachers who work in it. We have an outstanding faculty and staff, and we probably don't celebrate enough."

The employees, ranging from educational faculty to staff and groundskeeping, were called one by one and presented with various tokens of appreciation before shaking hands with the board. Many were flanked by family members as they waited for their names to be called, and cheered, sometimes playfully jeered, by colleagues as they accepted their awards.
