To heel or not to heel…you decide!
Local Moms wearing high heels at area preschools. Is this the new fashion?

So, am I the only Mom out there who feels that wearing high heels is just impractical? The idea of “tip-toeing” through my day and not through the tulips seems like way too much to ask a Mom who runs from place to place with two little ones.
Both of my little ones attended Asbury Nursery School in Allentown for their preschool career. When I take my youngest to Asbury, I throw on jeans and flip flops and we make our way over to Walbert Avenue. On most occasions we show up at preschool and some Moms are “all decked” out in the latest fashion. Their hair and make-up is perfectly done and they roam the hallways in the latest pump or boot.
As a Mom, I’m lucky that my hair gets done, let alone making sure that my footwear is of the latest style. I can’t imagine going on a play date to the playground or park wearing 2-1/2” heels. Or the thought of chasing around a 4-year old as we wander the isles of Target to buy dog food with heels on. My feet hurt when I think about that scenario.

So, how do these women do it? Are their budgets endless where money is not a concern? Do they wake at 4 a.m. to be sure there outfits are perfectly matched with accessories? How do these amazing women get that NYC look, right here in the Lehigh Valley?
I guess I will continue to move forward in my favorite flip flops or sneaks. I’ll do my best to match my clothes together and make sure that both my shoes match. And I’ll continue to envy these women and their knowledge of the latest styles.

For one day, I too will be back in the workforce complaining that my feet hurt and how I miss those days when my kids were young. And I too will remember that awesome feeling of waking up, throwing on jeans and sliding my foot into that all too comfortable flip flop. And all of that envy I had for those amazing women years before, will be nothing but a memory.
