Brave Hearts for Strong Minds - 2nd Annual Walk in honor of Tom Reilly

Brave Hearts for Strong Minds supports education costs for children who have lost a parent on June 15, with a family friendly walk with live music and games at LaSalle College High School in Wyndmoor, PA

WHAT: At the second annual walk in honor of Tom Reilly, a local man who passed away leaving behind four young children under the age of 10, individuals will come together to walk, play games, and listen to live music while raising funds which go directly to education savings plans for children who have lost a parent. In addition, baby clothes will be collected and distributed to local Non-Profit, Cradles to Crayons*

The items – new and nearly new infants’ and children’s clothing, warm coats, hats, shoes, boots, gloves, newborn baby items, baby safety equipment, toys, books and school supplies – will be donated at the registration table from 9am-1pm. Once delivered, the items will be inspected and sorted to make KidPacks, a week’s supply of everyday warm essentials “ordered” by area social service agencies for individual children in their care – all at no cost.

WHY: Losing an income earning parent can deter a family from being able to pay for groceries, let alone education costs. As a community we recognize the importance of alleviating the financial burden of education so that the widows and children left behind can have a chance to succeed while not having to worry about providing their next meal. “College costs have been rising roughly at a rate of 7% per year for decades.  Since 1985, the overall consumer price index has risen 115% while the college education inflation rate has risen nearly 500%. Education is the great equalizer in this country.  It is the facilitator of the American Dream. “* (www.Forbes.com)
