diamonds sparkle

expensive perfume
Flowers brighten the air
with their petals so soft
Scents of springtime
from folded green leaves
Fancy chocolates to consume
great gifts to please
even dinners sublime
Yet none of these things
could ever do
for all the years
giving us all
the love you went through
labor, nursing, feeding
washing, clothing
and caring
sacrificing everything
in all that you do
What better gift on this day
could ever last as long
standing up for us
even when we’re wrong
it’s better to confess
that our best gift to you
is to give to the world
not just what we say
but show it in actions
