Sunscreen Tips

A few important reminders on using sunscreen.

While sunscreen may seem like such an easy notion, there are some things we would like to remind you about.

  • Sunscreen should be applied at least 30 minutes prior to going out (even on days that are cloudy). Your body needs that time to absorb the sunscreen and to get it working.
  • Be sure to apply a thick and generous layer! Make sure to cover all exposed skin!
  • Don't forget about areas like the back of the neck, the tops of ears, the bridge of your nose. Don't forget parts in little girls' hair! Yes, they can get sunburned too! I frequently put my girls' hair in pigtails, and that center part in their hair got sunburned more times than I would like to admit.
  • Reapply every two hours, especially when swimming or when your child is sweating.
  • Choose an SPF of 15-30 for your children.  We generally stick with an SPF of 30.  I've read that higher than that doesn't make much of a difference.
  • The method of application (lotion, spray, stick, etc) doesn't matter so much. Just make sure you use it!

What method of sunscreen application do you prefer?  Any particular type or brand?  Tell us in the comments below!
