Doylestown Man Lied About Stone Sighting: Police

Luke Sanderlin, 34, is facing charges for lying about being attacked by a mass murderer on the loose Monday.

A Doylestown man is facing charges for lying to authorities that he was attacked by a mass murderer on the loose Monday.

Luke Sanderlin, 34, is charged with filing a false report, reckless endangerment and risking a catastrophe, 6ABC Action News reported.

According to authorities, Sanderlin fabricated a story that he was carjacked by Brad Stone, who police had been searching for in connection to a nearby killing spree. Sanderlin told police a man matching Stone’s description approached him with a knife and demanded his car keys while he was walking his dog near Burpee and Shady Retreat roads in Doylestown Township.

Sanderlin, who is being held at Bucks County Prison, said he was armed and fired shots at the man who he said was Stone.

At the time of report, authorities had been searching for Stone, who was believed to be armed and dangerous, for more than 12 hours. The report prompted the search to extend to Bucks County. Residents were asked to shelter in place and the hospital was locked down as police looked for Stone in Doylestown.

His motive?

Sanderlin was hoping to get attention that would drive donations to his GoFundMe site, Bucks County District Attorney Dave Heckler told The Intelligencer.

Stone’s body was found Tuesday afternoon about a half mile from his Pennsburg home. The cause of death is still under investigation.

Stone shot and killed his ex-wife and five of her family members in an early morning killing spree in Lansdale, Lower Salford Township and Souderton.
