No Experience Needed!

Ever have a secret desire to be in the spotlight? Do you have a yearning to act in a play? Are you just itching to perform in front of a live audience? However, you didn't know how to go about it? Well, now here is your chance. The Village Players of Hatboro will be holding open auditions for the zany comedy, "Leading Ladies” by Ken Ludwig. The playhouse is a local, community, nonprofit, organization dedicated to the performing arts for over 65 years. All work is voluntary.

The auditions are open to anyone. No experience is needed. In fact, first timers are encouraged to try out for the show. Many of our productions feature actors in their debut performances. If you're looking for a place to get your foot in the door for some theater experience, this is the place. Mark your calendars, auditions will be held on Sunday, June 23rd and Monday June 24th at 7:00 p.m.

Here is a breakdown of the roles:

Leo (20s to 40s)- A great, though completely unknown, Shakespearian actor from London who, along with Jack, can’t get a break. He's the "brains," of the duo as it were, pushing Jack into one harebrained scheme or another. Requires a British accent and some kissing.

Jack (20s to 30s)- Leo's partner who always ends up going along with Leo's schemes, no matter how unwillingly. Requires a British accent and a brief comedic kiss with Doc and Butch.

Meg (20s to 30s)- Vivacious, with enormous warmth and a great sense of humor. She knows there’s a big world outside her small town, but she hasn’t seen much of it yet. She harbors a world of dreams and sleeps on them every night. Requires a brief time in a towel and some kissing.

Audrey (20s to 30s)- She's sweet, she's happy go-lucky, and bless her, she's trying to improve her mind, even if she is a bit of an airhead. Requires a brief time in roller sakes.

Duncan (30s to 40s)- He’s the local minister and engaged to, and substantially older than Meg. He’s a good man at heart, but rather fussy, set in his ways, a bit scatter-brained, and lives in his own world.

Florence (50s+, the older the better)- A wealthy, crusty, aging old woman who still has a good head on her shoulders, despite having very poor eyesight.

Doc (50s)- Father to Butch. A crusty, likeable curmudgeon, a country doctor who takes no guff from anybody. Requires a brief comedic kiss with Jack.

Butch (20s to 30s)- A little slow on the uptake, but earnest and sincere, with a good heart. Somewhat of a country boy. Requires a brief comedic kiss with Jack.

Show dates are October 4, 5, 6, 11, 12, 13, 18 and 19, with three or four benefit performances on a few weeknights during the run (these dates will be available at the audition).

No monologues. No experience needed. First time actors are warmly welcome. Production runs three weekends in June 2013. Auditions will be a cold read from the script. Rehearsals will begin in March. The rehearsal schedule will be determined on cast availability.

If you are looking to get experience in other areas of theater: set construction, lights and sounds, props, make-up, etc., all volunteers are welcome. The best part is that no prior experience is needed! You'll get hands on training.

The Village Players of Hatboro is located in residential Hatboro at 401 Jefferson Avenue. The theater is situated between Jacksonville and Warminster Roads near County Line Road.
