Horsham Man, 20, Charged With Murdering Elderly Man

Authorities say Jeffrey W. Anderson, 20, killed 72-year-old William Neill in Upper Moreland on Wednesday afternoon.

A Horsham man has been charged with first degree murder in connection with a stabbing that happened Wednesday in the Hatboro section of Upper Moreland Township.

Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman and Upper Moreland Township Police Chief Michael Murphy announced the charges Friday.

According to police, officers were called Wednesday at 3 p.m. for a report of a stabbing at 210 Newington Drive in the Hatboro section of Upper Moreland Township.

The responding officers detained Anderson, who was attempting to flee the scene in the victim’s Cadillac Escalade, police said.

When police went inside the residence, they found Neill dead from apparent stab wounds, according to authorities.

Anderson’s mother told authorities her son said he stabbed Neill because he tried to sexually assault him, according to The Intelligencer.

Anderson was arraigned before District Judge Paul Leo and remanded without bail to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Thursday, March 12.
