A Sunday night fire in the Hatboro section of Upper Moreland heavily damaged a single family home, sent one man to the hospital, and took the life of a household pet.
Heavy fire damage was visible to much of the house at 122 Bonnet Lane, particularly on the right side of the structure as viewed from the street. Several firefighters were seen using flashlights inside and on the roof of the house.
A male patient was transported to Abington Memorial Hospital with smoke inhalation injuries. The man sustained his injuries when he attempted to enter the home to rescue a dog that was inside, according to Upper Moreland police chief Thomas Nestel. The dog, a golden retriever named "Angel," did not survive.

Nestel said the fire started as a result of candles that were left burning unattended. It was not immediately clear whether any people were home at the time the fire started.
BNN reported that the fire was placed under control shortly before 10:30pm.
