Nine Deadbeat Dads Arrested in Overnight Sweep in Montco

Deputies arrested nine fathers in Norristown, Pottstown and Abington between 1 and 6:30 a.m.

Deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department arrested nine deadbeat parents during an overnight sweep Wednesday in Norristown, Pottstown and Abington.

The 15 deputies, armed with a list of 67 deadbeat parents who owed $142,365 in payments, arrested nine fathers between 1 and 6:30 a.m. Three more parents turned themselves in after learning that they were being pursued.

“We are keeping deadbeat parents on the front burner,” said Montgomery County Sheriff Russell Bono. “I think it’s unconscionable that a father wouldn’t take his responsibility to his kids seriously.”

A total of 266 defendants representing $3.4 million have been arrested or turned themselves in since April, according to the sheriff.

“The holidays are coming,” said Bono. “Maybe some of these kids will get Christmas presents as a result of our efforts.”
