UPDATE: Upper Moreland Student Killed in Accident
A 17-year-old student lost his life after being struck by an SUV on Blair Mill Rd. yesterday.

Last night it was reported that a pedestrian was struck by an SUV at Blair Mill Rd. and Moreland Rd. It is now being reported that it was a 17-year-old student from Upper Moreland High School.
The Upper Moreland Police Department released the following update:
Upper Moreland Township Police responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on November 13, 2012, at approximately 5:35pm, on Blair Mill Rd. near Moreland Ave. A 17 year old Upper Moreland High School student was walking across Blair Mill Rd. and he was hit while standing in the painted medial area of Blair Mill Rd.

The seventeen year old was taken to Abington Hospital for medical care. Despite the efforts of emergency personnel, he was declared dead. An autopsy will be conducted by the Office of the Coroner of Montgomery County.
An investigation by the Upper Moreland Township Police Department began shortly after the accident. The driver of the striking vehicle is a 39-year-old Warrington woman, who was cooperative with police. She stayed on the scene and voluntarily provided blood to police. The investigation is ongoing: an analysis of her blood will be conducted, witnesses will be contacted, the striking vehicle will be inspected and reconstruction of the accident will be conducted by experts from the Upper Moreland Township Police Department and the Horsham Police Department.

The Vice Principal of Upper Moreland High School was notified of the accident last night and assembled a crisis team. Grief counselors are available for the students.
