Willow Grove Man Sexually Assaulted Child In His Car, Home: Cops

Abington Senior High School teacher and Willow Grove resident Thomas Kummer has had sexual contact with the minor for months, police said.

ABINGTON, PA — Further details were released on Monday afternoon after an Abington Senior High School teacher was charged for sexually assaulting an underage student.

Kummer, who teaches Latin to high school students, came under the radar of local authorities following a tip from a concerned citizen, police said.

The tip, which alleged Kummer was having sex with a minor, came into police on Wednesday, Sept. 26. After a brief investigation, Kummer was taken into custody at his home, on the 400 block of Krewson Terrace in Willow Grove, without incident on Sept. 30.

Police said there was evidence that Kummer had been having sex with the victim since July. The incidents occurred inside of Kummer's vehicle across Abington Township, and also at Kummer's Willow Grove home, police said.

Police did not state the age of the victim.

Kummer faces felony charges of unlawful contact with a minor, corruption of minors, endangering the welfare of a child, and institutional sexual assault of a minor.

Abington School District has suspended Kummer. In a statement, Assistant Superintendent Jeffrey Fecher said that the school was cooperating fully with authorities.

The investigation is ongoing.

Kummer's arraignment is scheduled for Monday afternoon before District Justice Juanita Price.
