Coopersburg Council appoints Zoning Hearing Board Member
Council will also advertise for Zoning Officer position in Morning Call
Coopersburg Council has appointed Robert Headman to the borough Zoning Hearing Board and will be placing an ad in The Morning Call for hiring a zoning officer.
Council, at its meeting Tuesday, also reported on the pension budget and heard from a representative of the Borough Business Revitalization Program (BBRP).
Headman, a 29-year borough resident, has a degree in engineering and business from Penn State University and served in Vietnam.

“He's been involved in what we're doing and where we're going,” said Councilman John Felch. “He's very capable.”
Councilman Larry Pummer said the newspaper ad for zoning officer would be placed in preparation for the Oct. 11 meeting. The position is currently held by Barry Isett & Associates.

“We need to evaluate and make a decision,” Pummer said.
Next on the agenda was the uniform and non-uniform pension fund. Council noted a drop in liability payments for 2012. Councilman Harvey Greenland asked about the possibility of an increase in liability to the pension fund. Felch reported that as a result of having a pension account manager, the non-uniform pension fund had remained adequate.
“We have been overfunded," added Felch about the police pension fund.
Council president Gary Hovis gave an update on the inspection of oil tanks in Borough Hall. Hovis is looking for a cost-effective way to inspect the tanks, which have begun to rust from the outside due to condensation.
Borough manager Dawn Kresge reported a member of the Rail Trail Committee had resigned, creating an opening. She added that Upper Saucon Township would not move onto its second phase of trail development until 2013.
Mary Himmelberger of the BBRP told council about the Shop Local Program. The BBRP works to promote local businesses and communities. The BBRP has provided money to the Coopersburg Farmers Market to aid in marketing promotions and has assisted council in gathering information on the comprehensive plan.
