Do you think the number of administrators and their salaries has outgrown the district?

Jim Grabusky: It would be really difficult to say that administration should be taking salary freezes if others can’t. You need to look at whether it needs to be done and look at the business model. You need to ask, are all the current positions needed and are they all being filled where they should be?

Jeffrey Dimmig: The central office is the best area to cut. The farther you get from the classroom teacher, from the people who are interacting with the children day in and day out, that’s where we need to look for savings. Looking at the assistant superintendent, we need to look at if that’s a necessary position. Administrator positions are where we can best realize savings. These have $50 thousand to $100 thousand salaries.

William Lycett: I guess my uneducated response would be yes. I think that when you have limited resources, I’d rather put them in the classroom than have a number of administrators that are not necessarily contributing to something as value. One of the things I understand is that there was a new principal placed in the Lower Milford Elementary School at a salary over $100 thousand. And I kind of question why could that not that have been a shared responsibility with one of the other principals as opposed to hiring someone unique to a school that has declining enrollment? So the status quo in doing things the same way “just because”, I think, needs to be questioned more and move for resources that make sense and provide value.

John Quigley: I expect we’re going to be looking very closely at just that. We’re going to see a significant change with administrators in the next couple of years that are going to retire. We need to see if we can try and remove some of the redundancy and overlap that we have.

Corrine A. Gunkle: We do have some retirements coming up in some key administrative positions and basically as the time comes we’re actively looking, and have been looking, for the last several years at whether we can do that job differently, whether we can job share with somebody else, etc. So I think, certainly, we should continue to do those types of things as we move forward.
