Lower Milford Historical Home Photography Project Picks Up Steam
Houses built prior to 1940 will be cataloged with Lower Milford Historical Society.

Members of the Lower Milford Historical Society will get together after Easter to continue photographing homes built prior to 1940.
Of the approximately 145 homes that fall into that criterion, some have already been recorded by society members Ed Matulevicius, Donna Wright and Kelly Butterbaugh. Members find the homes by heading to the Lehigh County Tax Assessment Office and checking property deeds in Lower Milford Township.
Wright, also the chairperson of Lower Milford Township Board of Supervisors, said at the April 20 meeting, that the oldest home in the township was built sometime in the 1760’s.

“All homes will be photographed from the roadside,” said Wright, “and cataloged for a photographic record which will be given to the Lower Milford Historical Commission.” They, in turn, will be able to use the photos when assisting property owners with improvements or maintenance to their home.
“In Phase II of the project,” Matulevicius said, “the historical society will begin the lengthy research of each home to determine its historical value, if any.”

When the project is completed, all information will be placed into a database for the public to access.
Matulevicius showed the members of the group a digital photo frame purchased for use by the historical society in order to display announcements or pictures, such as the homes. It will be placed in the lobby of the municipal building for residents to view.
The next meeting of the Historical Society will be May 18 at 7:30pm at the township building.
