Pick a Pumpkin from a Patch

Carving store-bought pumpkins can be fun, but picking your own from a patch is an added bonus.

Though for some farms, there are still many options throughout Bucks and Montgomery counties. Check out these patches for all of your pumpkin picking and fall decorating needs, but be sure to call ahead to make sure they are open in case of inclement weather.

Active Acres Farm: 881 Highland Rd., Newtown
Hours of Operation: Saturday and Sundays in October. 11 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Enjoy pumpkin patches, hayrides, corn mazes and pony rides. $5 for any size pumpkin found in the patch.

Hellerick's Family Farm: 5500 North Easton Rd., Doylestown
Hours of Operation: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Oct. 31.

In addition to browsing the 10 acre field for pumpkins, you can choose from a selection of handpicked pumpkins that have been hauled in from the field to the market. Other fall decorations, including gourds, squash, scarecrows, corn shocks and more are available for purchase. Get lost in the 5 acre corn maze ($8), take part in pumpkin rolling or a potato sling shot ($2 - $5) or relax on a hay ride (Saturday and Sunday's $5).

Kohler Farms, 1262 Limekiln Pike, Horsham Township

Bring the kids to pick a pumpkin and enjoy a fall hayride. Clifford and Sponge Bob also make special guest appearances (at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. respectively). Other fall decorations, such as mums, are also available for sale.

The farm's Pumpkin Festival is underway. Guests can pick out a pumpkin, dance along to live country music, take a hayride or pony ride or get their faces painted.

PumpkinFest by Day is open daily, weather permitting. For $12, guests to the farm can enjoy an array of entertainment. Take a hay ride to the pumpkin patch where you can choose your own pumpkin (cost of pumpkin is not included in the price), wander through  a straw or corn maze, bounce around in inflatable play areas and much more. On weekends, live entertainment and pig races take place, and kids can ride ponies and get their faces painted for an additional fee. Coupons for cheaper admission are available on the farm's Web site.
