Prowling Around with Prowler
Arts Columnist Tom Bilotta talks with the members of Prowler about what the band full of Southampton natives see in their future.

Who doesn't love a good party? It’s even better when that party is accompanied by good music. Mix the two together and you have what Prowler brings to the stage. Their beat driven dance music is enough to get even the tough guys bouncing. They combine the disco of the 70’s with the punk of the 80s and add a dash of some modern-day club music. It is something you just have to listen to even try to digest it.
Three of the bandmates, Ryan Kerriagan, Keith Greiman and Mike Stazseski, are Southampton natives that still like to keep it local often. A little while back, I was able to share a glass of Merlot with Greiman and get the inside scoop on where the band was and where they are going.
Prowler is:
Kat Paffett- Keyboards
Tyler Griswald- Percussion
Ryan Kerrigan- Guitar
Mike 'the Dude' Stazseski - Bass
Darren - Guitar
Keith Greiman- Vocals
TB: How did Prowler get started?
KG: Lots of hanging out in Ryan's Mom's garage. And Mad Dog. And a drum machine.
TB: Where do you feel you fit into the music scene?
KG: Hopefully, we provide people a nice alternative to their regular listening. I want to make songs that are groovy and enjoyable.
TB: What are your main influences?
KG: Between all of us, I'd say pretty much every band ever and at the same time, some bands that have never been.
TB: What are you trying to have the audience think and/or feel at one of your shows?
KG: I hope that they get it and get into it. Playing live is a two way street.
TB: Most memorable show?
KG: The Marthas Vineyard Film Festival and the TLA with Deerhoof. Both were
incredibly fun.
TB: Most memorable moment?
KG: How about moments: First running amok on the Marthas Vineyard Ferry. And then playing this basement party at 2nd and Brown in Philly. What a super sweaty and enthusiastic crowd. There were a couple of German kids freaking out. They had caught wind of the party on the Internet and came out. Super fun.
TB: Favorite place to play and why?
KG: Totally at Kung Fu Necktie. Nice folks and they let us play mighty loud.
TB: What is one of your favorite bands to play with?
KG: The PoPo. Over the years we have played with them a bunch. I am pretty sure they have never played the same song twice.
TB: What are you trying to convey with your latest album "Wooly Mammoth?"
KG: We’d get to a certain point in a song where we'd sit and evaluate. Then think, OK...how can this be weirder.
TB: Was there anything you did differently with this album then the others?
KG: We did a bit more building songs in the computer.
TB: What are your favorite songs to play?
KG: "Skinny Bones" and "Beware Delaware." They fit right in the pocket.
TB: What is your favorite thing about playing?
KG: Every once in a while you get the perfect storm of sound and crowd that equals a sweet time.
TB: What does the future hold for Prowler?
KG: Probably hanging out in Mike the Dude's parent’s basement.
