4 Upper St. Clair Students Complete Honors Institute

The four juniors spent Saturdays this school year learning about nuclear power production and other scientific topics.

UPPER ST. CLAIR, PA - Four Upper St. Clair High School juniors have completed the Westinghouse Science Honors Institute, a program for high school juniors throughout the region who demonstrate a strong interest in science and engineering and who are of high academic standing.

Participating students include Kaitlyn Kanas, Arushi Khaitan, Claire Kohler and Serena Luo.

The honors institute consisted of 13 Saturday morning lectures, from October through March, on selected topics such as nuclear power production; FBI's forensic investigations; potential of adipose tissue and adipose-derived stem cells; lasers and mechatronics and future human exploration of the solar system.

Students attend the honors institute to gain insight into careers in engineering and science. They can network with working professionals and interact with students from different schools who also have the same abilities and interests in science and engineering.

Approximately 600 juniors are accepted into honor institute annually.
