New Hazlett Theater

Texture continues its 16th season with Echoes &amp; Illusions, on stage September 18–20 at the New Hazlett Theater!

Opening the program is the return of Alan Obuzor’s mesmerizing contemporary piece, Shadows and Light. Abandoning traditional stage lighting, the dancers illuminate the space themselves with hand-held, high-beam flashlights—casting dynamic shadows on striking choreography and slicing light through the darkness with sharp precision.

The performance also features a collection of intimate works by Alan Obuzor and Kelsey Bartman, bringing versatile, emotional range to the stage, while Madeline Kendall Schreiber’s new work portrays the unraveling of a coven as their collective sanity begins to slip due to prolonged existence.

Closing the program, Disintegration and Restoration of the Individual is an ode to the struggle of finding our individual identities in a society that pushes conformity. Choreographed by Resident Dancer Jillian Sinko, this work showcases the desperate desire to be our truest self, in a world that constantly tells us to blend in. This piece celebrates the beauty and freedom that comes from finding what lies beyond this pushed conformity.

Texture Contemporary Ballet's Children's Performance of Echoes &amp; Illusions consists of excerpts from the mainstage production, plus a fun, interactive portion on stage with the dancers for all children in attendance! The event is designed for children ages 10 and under, however all ages are welcome. It is a great opportunity to introduce children to dance as a performing art, enjoy a theater experience, and even learn a dance step or two! The activities that we present the children with focus on teaching the fundamental ideas of coordination, imagination, musicality, listening, following instructions, and working together.

Tickets are only $25 per family! (A family ticket includes up to 5 people)
