The class will focus on Amos’ indictment of Israel for its mistreatment of the poor by exploring Amos 1:1-2:8. We will consider the time in which Amos spoke, the issues in Israelite society in that period, and the similarities of Amos’ time to our time. Dr. Jerome Creach, guest lecturer.
Dr. Creach is the Robert C. Holland Professor of Old Testament at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. His most recent book is Violence in the Bible, published by Westminster John Knox Press (2013).
