An Elected Official Pleads Guilty, but Beats the Rap

While it is gratifying that San Diego's former mayor and one of the greatest frauds and sexual harassers that ever held public office has pleaded guilty to one felony and two misdemeanor crimes, it is discouraging to learn that legitimate justice will not be dispensed.
Bob Filner secured a sweet deal for himself, "sentenced" to three months of house arrest, three years of probation, and the requirement that he undergo mental health treatment.  His prior agreement to resign office under pressure was completed with the provision that he would not suffer financial loss as a result of his actions, all costs footed by the people in whose faces he expectorated as he went on his merry way, using his powerful position to manipulate and oppress defenseless women.
Let us hope that the great city of San Diego can recover from what it has suffered at the hands of a wicked man who would no doubt have continued to be a remorseless criminal had his actions not been exposed by multiple courageous victims.
