Baker Elementary Parents To Build School's New Playground

The construction will culminate a two-year effort to provide a new play area for students.

UPPER ST. CLAIR, PA - The time for planning is over. The time for construction draws near. After two years of fundraising and anticipating, Baker Elementary School parents will gather at the school on July 17 and spend the day building the school’s new playground.

The project has been a collaborative effort, with the PTA committee and Baker principal Patrick McClintock-Comeaux working in tandem with students from the Upper St. Clair High School’s STEAM Innovation & Consulting course. The students were asked to design and update the school’s outdoor play spaces that maximizes usage while ensuring appropriate supervision.

The project was paid for through grants, corporate sponsorships and fundraisers through the PTA – including the school’s Read-A-Thon and a commemorative brick sale.

“We are so excited to finally be able to see our hard work pay off,” Baker PTA president Lindsay Beck said in a district release. “Our families have given so generously to this project, and we can’t wait for everyone to see the finished product, especially the kids.”
