Dakota Conwell Done with Football, Arizona Newspaper Reports

University of Arizona sophomore linebacker Dakota Conwell will have to give up football because of concussion problems, Arizona Head Coach Rich Rodriguez said on his weekly radio show Wednesday night, according to the Tucson Citizen.


"(He has) had multiple concussions," Rodriguez is quoted in the newspaper as saying on KCUB. "Our doctors do a good job. If our doctors say you probably shouldn't play anymore, guys are going to listen."

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Conwell, a former star at Upper St. Clair High School, played in 10 games as a true freshman at Arizona in 2012 and recorded seven solo and five assisted tackles for a total of 12, including three tackles (and one sack) for losses totaling 12 yards. He also broke up two passes as one of just six true freshman to play defense for the Wildcats that season.

Conwell was a first-team all-state linebacker/quarterback for Upper St. Clair High and a two-time Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Fabulous 22 selection. In 2011, he rushed for 1,097 yards and passed for 1,087 more, including 35 rushing touchdowns and 18 passing TDs, as Upper St. Clair won the WPIAL AAAA Great Southern Conference title and played in the WPIAL championship game.

On defense that year, he recorded 38 tackles and an interception.
