Duquesne University Honors Upper St. Clair English Teacher

Liz Cecelia wins a prestigious award from her alma mater.

UPPER ST. CLAIR, PA - Upper St. Clair High School English teacher Elizabeth Cecelia was named the recipient of this year’s Duquesne University School of Education’s Alumni Leading Teacher Program Excellence Award.

The award is given to a Duquesne alumnus who has five years of continuous teaching experience and whose performance demonstrates excellence in one of the three themes of the Leading Teacher Program: leadership, diversity and technology.

Cecelia has taught Advanced Placement English 12 for the past 16 years and Honors English 11 for the past seven years. In addition, she served as sponsor of the school’s literary arts magazine, “Montage,” from 2004-2014.

"I received the award for my leadership in the areas of academic integrity and writing,” Cecelia said in a district release. “I have led several writing programs at the high school, including the Montage and a summer college essay writing course I developed and taught from 2014-2016.”

Said Timothy Wagner, associate principal for program planning and innovation: “This is a great accomplishment, and reflects highly on all that Liz has done for our students and for our school community over nearly two decades.”
