Over two hundred 8th-11th grade USC students and parents attended the 10th Annual Becoming A Competitive College Applicant on Tuesday evening, February 5th, in the USCHS Nutrition Center.
Admission representatives from Indiana University-Bloomington, John Carroll University, North Caroline State University, Temple University and University of Michigan presented an overview of each of their universities, including such areas as retention and graduation rates, campus life, class size, sports, etc. During the Q & A session they delved into such areas as high school course selection, the importance of the essay, G.P.A., SAT, & ACT scores, what to look for in the campus visit, scholarship & financial aid, and letters of recommendation. They also encourage a campus visit. The evening concluded with a role-play of The College Interview, and individual student/parent conferences with the representatives.
This is an event that is held each February when the National College Fair is held at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, enabling the High School Counseling Department to have a variety of colleges and universities represented each year.
