A recital of American songs featuring our own Ruthann Manley, mezzo-soprano, and Jim Burns, piano. You will be inspired by the fusion of poetry and music in Aaron Copland’s settings of poems by Emily Dickinson, Samuel Barber’s Hermit Songs – an engaging cycle set to texts from medieval Ireland – and Three Browning Songs by American’s first prominent woman composer, Amy Beach. This and more will celebrate the richness of song in the United States. A reception will follow.
