Man Tries to Return Items That He Stole, Upper St. Clair Police Report

Monday's preliminary hearing for a man accused of trying to return stolen items to the Sears at South Hills Village in late April was postponed for 60 days.

An Upper St. Clair police officer responded to the Sears at around 4:23 p.m. on April 23 for a retail theft report. According to court documents, Sears loss prevention officers say that Harold Leon Heintz, 43, of Giffin Avenue in Canonsburg Borough, recently returned stolen items to the store in exchange for a gift card.

When it was discovered that the items may have been stolen, the gift card was canceled. Heintz called the store to find out why the card had been canceled and was told that he had to come to the store to get cash instead. Heintz did return a short time later but left without getting the money, according to court documents.

Police and loss prevention officers weren't able to catch Heintz before he left the store, but police are still charging him with retail theft. According to court documents, the theft was determined through interviews with the loss prevention officers, who say that they saw Heintz handle the items, and by checking store sales records.

The items reported to be stolen were various tools totaling approximately $152 in value.

Failure to Show for Retail Theft Charge

Vincent M. Mamone, 47, of Churchill Road in Bethel Park, did not report to the local magistrate's office on Monday to submit drug and alcohol evaluation results or to pay restitution for a Jan. 16 retail theft charge at the South Hills Village Sears, according to court documents.

As such, a warrant is being issued for Mamone.

Update on Target Parking Lot Charge

A preliminary hearing for William Neal Willard, 36, of Meadowbrook Drive in Bethel Park, was continued on Monday until Sept. 9.

Willard is charged with theft by deception, with deceptive or fraudulent business practices and with trademark counterfeiting following an incident at the South Hills Village Target parking lot on May 30.
