Next Halloween A Holiday For Upper St. Clair Students
School directors shifted the proposed calendar to give the kids an entire day to put on their costumes and trick or treat.

UPPER ST. CLAIR, PA - Community feedback prompted Upper St. Clair school directors to make several revisions to the 2019-20 calendar, including one that makes Halloween an off day for students. The school board rescheduled in-service days from Monday Oct. 28 and Tuesday Oct. 29 to Thursday Oct. 31 and Friday Nov. 1.
“Overwhelmingly, this was the most requested change to the proposed calendar,” superintendent John Rozzo said in a statement. “We received a lot of great feedback from parents as well as staff members. We appreciate their input in this process and worked diligently to include their suggestions where we could.”
Also, iven that Upper St. Clair has had four snow days so far this year, some parents expressed concern over make-up days. The board voted to make the Monday following Easter – April 13 – a designated snow make-up day.

“Having a snow make-up day during the school year provides us some flexibility to ensure that our high school seniors attain the required number of instructional days,” Rozzo said.
Students will begin the 2019-20 school year on Monday Aug. 26. Pending the need for snow make-up days, the last day of the school for students is set for June 9, 2020, and high school commencement will be held on June 4.

Thanksgiving recess will once again include Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, Nov. 27-29. School will resume the following Monday, Dec. 2.
Winter Break begins on Dec. 23 and continues through Jan. 1. A 10-day spring break is set for the week preceding Easter and includes the following Monday. Students would be off school starting April 6 with students returning to school on April 14. But April 13 is a possible snow make-up day.
The entire calendar is available on the district’s website.
