Join the
Pittsburgh Civic Orchestra for “Travel the World in Music,” highlighting the
music of the cultures of Latin America and Bulgaria, at 7:30
p.m. October 12 at the Upper St. Clair Theater, 1825 McLaughlin Run Road
in Upper St. Clair. It is the first in a series of ethnic concerts to be
presented during the 2013-2014 season.
To showcase music from the vibrant cultures of Latin America the orchestra will be joined by the voices of
the choir Coro Latinoamericano Pittsburgh. The program will also feature two Mexican orchestral pieces: Moncayo's Huapangoand Chavez's Sinfonia India.
The concert will also mark a rare orchestral performance of Bulgarian music in
Pittsburgh. Virtuoso Vladimir Mollov will perform a brand-new work for accordion and orchestra. Two Tracian Pieces, a composition commissioned for the PCO by
Mollov, blends elements of Bulgarian folk music with Vlado’s riveting technique and personal style. The program alsofeatures Vardar Rhapsody byBulgaria’s best-loved composer Pantscho Vladigerov plus an arrangement made for us by Thomas Roncevic of the Bulgarian folk dance Gerdenska Rutchenitsa.
