Representative Daryl Metcalfe for Potentate and Supreme Religious Leader!

It is one thing for an elected official to adopt views that are out of step with contemporary society and to make outrageous pronouncements.  It is quite another to use one's power to squelch dissent.

I have witnessed the irrepressible and embarrassing Butler Republican State Representative Daryl Metcalfe appear on a statewide call-in program shouting down an opponent, drowning him out by interrupting, monopolizing air time, and talking louder than everyone else on the program.  Metcalfe has most recently used his ability to bully and ride roughshod over others on the House floor, cutting off the microphone of an openly gay member that wished to discuss the Supreme Court decision which opens the door to gay marriage, something which Metcalfe finds to be an abomination against God.

Our governing body is not named the Christian General Assembly, but one would not have known that from Metclafe's stunning remarks, which included the following, "His (the gay representative) talking about that (gay marriage) on the House floor would have been an open rebellion against Almighty God and God’s word, against God’s law. And as a Christian, if I would have sat there and been silent, it would have violated my conscience because of my beliefs as a Christian”.  How would Representative Metcalfe feel if the next time he appeared on a call-in program and tried to monopolize the floor by talking over everyone else, his microphone were cut on the basis that to allow him to filibuster would be an affront to God?

If there is anything to be said in Metcalfe's defense, it is that I can understand his confusion. This, after all, is a House which unanimously passed a resolution last year designating 2012 "The Year of the Bible", some of the most unholy and underhanded people on God's earth seeking to force their purported religious values on all Pennsylvanians.

I propose that Daryl Metcalfe be nominated as governor and potentate so that his moral supremacy and uniquely religious values may be spread throughout the Commonwealth with the force of law.  No other leader can approach his level of holiness.  No doubt a special place is reserved for this "gentleman" in heaven.
