The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Western Pennsylvania Betrays Its Mission

I am confused about the goals of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Western Pennsylvania, which purports to be in existence in order to prevent deadly diseases, including cancer.  The organization recently conducted a charitable event called "The Fan Smoker", which featured complimentary cigars for the attendees. Consumption of cigarettes and cigars and the use of pipes has a direct link to cancer and other diseases, as we are now well aware.

Would the Society have accepted a sponsorship grant from Altria Group (formerly The Phillip Morris Companies)  if it had wished to do even more to portray tobacco products as desirable?   Would the American Lung Association allow itself to be involved in a fundraiser in which cigarettes are distributed to the patrons by the tobacco pushers?

I suppose the message of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is, "Enjoy your cigars tonight, but tonight only! Do not make it a habit because it can kill you"!
